      Bank Transfers

        Article summary

A bank transfer is a transfer of money between two banks without using a credit card. Approximately 20% of customers on Comgate's payment gateway use this method, preferring it for a variety of reasons: they don't carry a payment card, don't want to enter their card details, have exceeded their daily limit, or simply find it more practical and faster to log into online or mobile banking and confirm the payment there.

Logging in to online banking or the app also guarantees the security of this payment method - payment confirmation can only take place there. When processing the transaction, security is guaranteed by the fact that the connection between the banks is encrypted.

Bank transfers without the use of Visa or Mastercard are a common practice, in some countries they even dominate. In recent years, this method has been on the rise in nearby Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands, for example.

By offering bank transfer payment methods, you will satisfy the demand of a significant number of customers and you will also save money. The cost of making a bank transfer is lower than, for example, paying by card, so the transaction fee is also lower.

The Comgate payment gateway offers several types of bank transfers, which differ in the way they are entered, the speed of confirmation and execution. A detailed description of their process can be found below.

        Payment in the mobile app

On a mobile device running iOS or Android, you can choose to pay via the mobile app. This is a user-friendly and fast option for payment by bank transfer. The payer logs into the mobile banking app and confirms the pre-filled payment order there. The transfer can then take place as an instant transfer if the payer's bank allows it. This payment method is available from banks that support it.

        Payment process

        1. The payer selects the payment by bank transfer or QR code in the payment gateway on the mobile phone and then selects his/her bank.

        2. In the next step, the payer selects the Pay in mobile app option and is instructed to select the mobile banking app in the system tray.

        3. The mobile banking app opens and the payer logs in using the usual method (e.g. biometric authentication).

        4. In the mobile application, the payer confirms the pre-filled payment order.

        Online bank transfer

The pre-filled bank transfer offers convenience for the payer as well as immediate confirmation of the payment. On the other hand, bank charges for this service are usually substantial. Therefore, we use pre-filled bank transfer on the Comgate payment gateway for banks where Open Banking Standard payments are not functional or less user-friendly.

        Payment process

        1. The customer selects their bank from a list of banks.

        2. After selecting the bank, the customer has the option to make the payment via QR code or click on "Pay in Internet Banking" and is redirected to Internet Banking.

        3. After logging into online banking, the customer is presented with a pre-populated payment order. In this order, the customer does not have the possibility to change the amount, the variable symbol or the beneficiary's bank.

        4. After payment, the customer is redirected back to the e-shop.

        QR payment

QR payments in combination with instant bank transfer meet the requirement for user convenience and low unit cost of payment. The weakness of this payment method is the fact that not all Czech banks allow instant bank transfers. Some banks change the settings during the day (working vs. non-working hours) and during the week ( weekdays vs. weekends and holidays). The Comgate payment gateway continuously monitors the behaviour of individual banks and accordingly offers the QR payment method in the list of payment methods at each bank. QR payment is suitable for payments on a computer, where the QR code is read from the screen monitor by a mobile phone.

        Payment process

        1. The customer selects the QR payment method.

        2. The customer selects their bank from the menu.
        3. The customer launches the mobile banking application on the mobile phone, selects the QR code payment, retrieves it from the computer screen and proceeds with the pre-filled bank transfer on the phone.

        Bank transfer without immediate confirmation

Bank transfer with manual filling in of payment details is intended for those who for some reason do not want or cannot pay by card and prefer to use a familiar method. In case of incorrectly filled in data or incorrect amount, we send the payment back to the payer's bank account. Confirmation of payment for such payment is within the next day.

        Payment process

        1. If the customer does not find his bank in the list of banks on the payment gateway, he/she chooses the method of the other bank.

        2. He/she will then be shown the payment details such as the counterparty's account number, amount and variable symbol.

        3. The customer logs in to his/her online banking. Here, he/she enters the details displayed by the payment gateway.

        4. If the customer's mobile phone supports reading QR codes, the customer can pay using QR payment.

        5. Once the payment details have been entered or retrieved via QR code, the payment can be confirmed.

        6. After payment, the customer is redirected back to the e-shop
