    Article summary

Google Pay is a payment method that allows customers to easily pay using a card stored in Google Wallet. The customer does not need to copy the card number or other details.

    Payment from the payer's perspective

Google Pay is essentially the same as paying by card.

You need a supported web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Opera or UC) or an Android or Wear OS device to view the service. For this payment method to work, the card needs to be stored in Google Wallet first.

    Payment process

    1. Selecting a Google Pay payment method

To view Google Pay, the payer needs to select either Google Pay directly or the Card Payment method. In case the payer has selected the method directly in the e-shop cart or has selected Card Payment, the payer will be redirected to the card gateway.

    2. Card selection in Google Wallet

In the following step, the card stored in Google Wallet will be displayed. If the payer has more than one card stored, you must select the card to be used for payment.

    3. Payment confirmation

In the next step, the payer confirms the payment, usually in their bank's mobile app.

    4. Completing the payment

Once the payment has been successfully completed, the page will display the message "Payment paid". The payer is then redirected back to the e-shop.

    Google Pay in WebView

WebView is an integrated web browser used within applications such as Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, or Threads.

The Google Pay payment method is not typically available on Android devices when using WebView. However, the Comgate payment gateway provides a solution: the payer is redirected from WebView to a standard browser, where Google Pay can be conveniently utilized.

    How does the process work?

    1. When the payer selects the Google Pay method, the Comgate payment gateway attempts to automatically redirect them from WebView to a standard browser.

    2. If the automatic redirection fails, the payer is clearly informed of the need to manually open the payment in a standard browser. The payment gateway provides clear instructions on how to proceed.

    3. In the standard browser, the payer can conveniently complete the payment using the Google Pay method.

      • The payer always retains the option to use other payment methods available on the payment gateway.

    4. If, for any reason, the payer needs to return from the browser to WebView, they can do so manually.

    Payment from an e-shop perspective

The Google Pay payment method is linked to the card payment method. Google Pay will automatically appear in the payment gateway for users with a compatible browser or device. No technical adjustments are required to display Google Pay in the payment gateway. If you require a different view of Google Pay, please follow the instructions below.

    Interface appearance

    1. Google Pay is part of the card payment method.

After clicking on the card payment option, the customer is redirected to the payment gateway. Google Pay is displayed automatically on the card gateway. The customer can choose whether to click on the Google Pay button or enter their card details.

The implementation is identical to any other payment method. Implementation instructions can be found in the API documentation.

We recommend adding the Google Pay logo to the card associations in the card payment option.

    2. You can have Google Pay as a separate payment method in your cart.

Google Pay will appear in your cart alongside your credit card and other payment methods. After clicking on the Google Pay option, the customer is redirected to the payment gateway.

The implementation is identical to any other payment method. Implementation instructions can be found in the API documentation.

    3. Google Pay can be integrated directly into the e-shop.

In this option, the payer is not redirected to the card gateway, the payment is paid directly in the e-shop environment. This is the most demanding option in terms of technical integration. For integration, the javascript library Checkout SDK is used, the technical documentation of which can be found here.

    Advanced features

As with card payments, refunds, pre-authorizations and subsequent chargebacks can be made.
