      Payment Restart

        Article Summary

The payment gateway allows users to retry a payment if they failed to complete it the first time. In such a case, the buyer will be prompted to make further payment attempts, with the option of using another payment card or another payment method. The payment gateway allows users to restart their payments if they did not complete them the first time. The payment gateway urges users to make another attempt to pay, for example using a different card or another payment method.

Unsuccessful payment attempts can occur for various reasons - for exple, if the buyer chooses to pay by bank transfer from an account that does not have sufficient funds available, or if the customer wishes to pay by card, but is not allowed to pay online.

In such cases, the payment gateway itself will offer the customer a new payment attempt with the option to choose an alternative payment method.

If the payment fails for any reason (in the example below, the buyer entered incorrect card details), the payment gateway will offer the customer several options: make a new attempt using the same payment method, choose a different payment method, return to the e-shop, or cancel the payment.

If the buyer does not pay for any reason, the payment remains in the Pending status and this information is not transmitted to the e-shop (no change in the payment status in the e-shop).

When the customer clicks on Return to e-shop, the customer returns to the e-shop site and the payment status does not change. The payment will remain in the Pending status.

After clicking Cancel Payment, the payment will be switched to the Unpaid status, the gateway will forward this information to the e-shop and the payer will be redirected to the e-shop. The payer is only redirected to the e-shop if less than 1 hour has elapsed since the payment was created - this is due to the normal lifetime of a session within the e-shop.

Allowing repeated payment attempts will result in an increase in the number of payments that are switched to the Unpaid status only when the so-called payment expiration period expires. The transmission of information about an unpaid payment will occur either by the payer clicking on the Cancel Payment link or by the expiry of the payment expiry time.

        Payment status

After the payment has been created, the payment gateway sends an email to the customer with information about the payment. The email includes a Check Payment Status button, which allows the customer to go to a web page with information about the status of the payment. There they can find out whether the payment is in paid, unpaid or pending status.

The payment has been successfully completed by the customer. This status is immediately transmitted to the e-shop via API or email notification (if the e-shop owner wishes). As a seller, you can already provide the goods at this point.

The payment status Unpaid can occur for two reasons.

Either the customer uses the cancel payment button in the email, or the set expiration time has passed. After the expiration time has passed, the information about the unpaid payment is sent via API to the e-shop. This payment status is final, it can no longer be changed.

The last possibility is that it is a pending payment. In this case, the customer has not completed the payment immediately or has not yet succeeded. This status is not automatically transmitted to the e-shop. The customer has the option to re-select the payment method and repeat the payment. After the expiry date, such payment becomes unpaid. A payment may be marked as pending even while it is awaiting confirmation by the bank.
